C.H.B. Donkey
These great kits went out of production for a while but are now available once again.
The castings are crisp and clear, but a lot of drilling has to be done for all the plumbing. Just needs a fairlead and a water tank to complete. Makes an excellent detail in an "O" Scale logging scene.

.This kit is apparently available but we have not been successful in obtaining any from the manufacturer.
Willamette Log Buggy
Another fine model from McKenzie Iron & Steel in 1:48 scale. Loaded with detail, another contraption that used the Fordson tractor as a power plant. The front wheels are steerable. Makes a nice detail around the sawmill.

McKenzie Iron & Steel's
M.A.C. Tugger Hoist 1:48
This is an extremely detailed kit that uses the ubiquitous Fordson Tractor as its power plant. Added a fairlead, cable and some tools. A different sort of "donkey" engine used in logging. We have assemble several different versions of this unique model.
See the McKenzie page for current pricing and availability.

J.I. Case Steam Traction Engine in "O" Scale
J.I. Case Steam Traction Engine in "O" Scale
This metal kit was originally produced by S.S. Ltd. in both HO and O scales. Walker Models continued to produce in limited numbers, then sold out to OnTrak, and though we keep trying, we have not been able to obtain any from them .
I built the HO kit years ago and just recently obtained the O version off eBay, and have just finished assembling that one.
The detailing is exquisite, but I must admit that these are probably the most difficult and onery kits to assemble that I have ever come across! There are dozens of tiny pipe fittings to be drilled out, some of the parts fit together really poorly, requiring a ton of filing and filling, and the instructions are really just an exploded view of the parts.

The toughest part was restoring the wheel castings, as most of the spokes had been bent beyond repair in shipping, and a lot of the rest were poorly cast, so I had to drill and replace with brass wire. This model is quite heavy, so I reinforced a lot of the parts with brass pins and strips.

If you have one of these kits and are hesitant to assemble it yourself, let me know if you're interested in having it assembled, a LOT of hours go into this one though.
Below are a variety of custom assembled Kits:

NashQuad Log truck 1:48
The NashQuad was a popular base for logging trucks in the early days of trucking, with it's four-wheel drive and heavy-duty construction. McKenzie offers a logging conversion that with a few extra bits and pieces builds up into a nice model, shown here.
