Inco Flash Furnace

Commisioned by Hatch Engineering for INCO in Sudbury, this 3/4"=1'0" model showed the working features of their newly designed state-of-the-art FLASH furnace. Again, many movable and/or removable parts, used initially to prove the design and then to facilitate construction and operator training.
Philip Environmental EAF Dust Reduction Flash Furnace
Built as a trade show display for Philip Environmental of Hamilton, Ontario, this model replicated a proposed facilty to convert Electric Arc Furnace dust to inert matter that could be safely disposed of.

Algoma Steel Direct Strip Production Complex,
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
This model was commissioned by Hatch Engineering and Danieli of Italy, in 1995. Built to 1:100 scale, it showed the entire new state-of-the-art complex, which combines a thin slab caster with a hot strip mill. The model is 12 feet by 6 feet and breaks down into 4 tables. It is on display at Algoma's head office in Sault Ste. Marie. It has also been shown at numerous trade shows across North America.
The model is complete in every detail, showing the caster machine and it's peripherals, the hot strip mill, coil handling area, maintenance areas, offices, etc. etc.
Stelco Continuous Caster - Hilton Works
Built at a scale of 1:100, this model was commissioned by Stelco to:
• prove design drawings
• assist contractors in bidding and installation
• training of operating and maintenance crews

This is just one of the many scale models we constructed for Stelco over the past years. We've also done displays and working models for Dofasco, Algoma Steel, Bethlehem Steel, North Star Steel, INCO, Wierton Steel and many other North American and overseas clients.
Most of the equipment was moveable to show clearances and for operator/maintenance training.

The initial table was six feet square, but as the project progressed, additional add-on tables were constructed to model adjacent areas.

The model was constructed entirely of acrylic and ABS plastic, excepting fasteners and wood trim on base.

This view shows the twin casting machines with all the structural steel, etc. removed. The casters were mirror images and complete in every detail, including removable sections of machinery to show how things fit together for operator training and maintenance.
