Pricing for Custom Building and Custom Kit Assembly Custom Modelbuilding We can scratchbuild structures or rolling stock for your layout or display
case to your specification, we specialize in museum and contest-quality work.
We can build from prototype drawings, sketches or photographs. We do work directly
from photos, eliminating the costly and time-consuming step of creating drawings.
However is prototype drawings are available, they're still preferred. We also do custom models of street rods, vintage cars & trucks. Kit Assembly Has that kit been sitting gathering dust on your shelf for too long? Afraid to tackle it or just plain no time? We can assemble as per kit instructions or take your kits further and build into dioramas, provide interiors and lighting and kit-bashing. See our "Portfolio" for examples of past projects, as well as, some we have on the go. Industrial, Engineering and Architectural Clients. We would be pleased to provide quotations for display models, working prototypes, models for training, site development and legal situations. We have experience in all fields. We can provide transportation, set-up and crating for world-wide shipping. We have an extensive client list. Pricing Every job is different, so it's difficult to come up with an exact figure to cover all aspects of custom-building. We prefer to quote on an individual basis, taking into consideration your desired level of detail, weathering and finish. We have a flexible rate structure to cover everything from kit assembly straight-out-of-the-box, to elaborate kit-bashes to complete scratchbuilding. As a "ball-park" example, assembly cost for "most" of the McKenzie kits is FOUR times the kit's value, i.e. if the kit sells for $60, the cost for assembly is $240. This is for "straight-out-of-the-box, as-per-directions", extra detailing and customizing adds extra cost. Payment details We require a deposit to start your project (you wouldn't believe the stories we get for having to cancel!) For details on how to pay, see the "Ordering" page, click here. We can establish a "budget billing" process for larger projects. You decide how much you can budget each month and we will make progress on your project accordingly, and will provide you with progress photos so that you can follow along with your projects path to completion. |

The "Fine Print" Custom Modelbuilding Projects We use only the best available materials and professional methods to construct your
custom-built model. We send you progress photos of your project so you can see how it is progressing and offer comments and concerns. All custom-orders are "final sales", we cannot accept returns or offer refunds if you decide you don't like the final outcome (that's why we send you progress photos! ) We package all our project shipments in our virtually indestructable "Black Box" system. So far in dozens of shipments, no structure or model has arrived with a single piece out of place. If special unpacking instructions are required we will provide these so that you can safely unpack the "Black Box". We cannot ship until the project is paid in full, including shipping charges. Most of our customers provide us with more than adequate instructions on how they want their project to look, be weathered, etc. including reference photos. Others just ask is to use our best judgement and build as we see fit. In this case, what you get is what you get, we are not responsible if you are not happy with the end result. Obviously, the more input we have from you, the happier you will be with your models. Custom Kit Assembly: Please ensure that any kit(s) you send us for assembly are complete and that all
parts are properly formed. While we can replace missing and/or misformed parts,
this adds to the cost of assembling your kit. As this is not something we have
control over, we must unfortunately pass this cost on to you. If the kit we are building for you requires any addtional work, we will advise you. Some structure kits do not include interior bracing, include flimsy cardboard parts, and poor quality strip wood. We use stock "Floquil" colours in painting your kit. This is the only way we can guarantee colour matching. Custom mixing paint is subject to our interpretation of your request for "weathered, faded brown". Additionally, weathering will change the outcome of the finished colour and again is subject ot interpretation.. |
