CreativeWorks3D has created several model versions of the Chama Coaling Tower in
"O" scale (1;48, 1/4"=1'0"). The response to these structure models at the Dearborn
National Narrow Gauge Convention (2005) and the Craftsman Structure Show
in Boston (2007) was phenonemal. One example of this model was chosen for the Craft
Convergence, a juried art exhibition at the Tom Thompson Art Gallery in Owen
Sound, Ontario. It was awarded the "Peoples Choice Award" in that exhibition. These scratchbuilt models stand over 16 inches tall with a footprint of 9 inches wide by 12 inches deep. The Tower with the red siding, shown below, has full pit detail (requires a hole cut into the layout to accomodate this). The girders on the loading pit can accomodate rail laid to either 30" or 36" gauge, . Every detail on this structure has been modelled, right down to the tarpaper roofing, fine (40 link per inch) chain and dozens and dozens of nut/bolt/washer castings. Every single board and timber is lightly weathered to show years of exposure. The yellow sided version is a "table-top" model without the below ground pit details. Some of the detailing has been simplified, however it is still a stunning model. Yes there is a laser kit version of the very similar Durango Tower available, but as with any laser kit, many of the structural parts (wood beams and bracing) will necessarily have the grain running the wrong way, and it is extremely difficult to weather the cut edges of the thick timbers and bracing. We have a stock-pile of pre-cut timbers and wooden parts, plus the all the detail castings on hand. We would be please to quote on assembling a "O" scale version to your specifications. Please inquire about larger scale towers. |
